E-COMMERCE CASE STUDY
A Small Town Winery with National Reach.
A Remote Winery in a Crowded Market
The winery estate is comprised of 40 acres of hillside outside of the sleepy town of Lowville.
It’s a popular summertime destination.
The challenge for a small winery of this size is one, attracting customers, and two, keeping them. E-commerce, specifically the ability to sell wine online can help to retain valued customers.
VINOSHIPPER
A need was identified to increase direct to consumer sales, more specifically, online wine sales. A partnership with VinoShipper, an online sales platform allowed Tug Hill Vineyards to gain legal compliance in 40 states. A sales avenue that hadn’t been explored in over a decade due to the complex interstate alcohol regulation and tax law.
This partnership, and subsequent integration into the website, supported by social media and email campaigns. Has opened to door to retaining customers who fall in love with the product onsite.
Effectively bridging the geographical distance between customers and the winery. This has allowed the company to participate in sales beyond wholesale distribution channels.
The chart below illustrates the early success of the project, and how it became a lifeline for sales during the COVID-19 lockdown in New York in 2020.
